We are please to welcome Taylor Johnston and Ed Bowen of issima nursery to this year’s Nantucket Garden Festival! After hearing Taylor and Ed present at the Hollister House Garden Study Weekend, NGF Committee Member, Amy Pallenberg, was quick to recommend them for this year’s event.

In their talk named ‘The Cutting Garden Reimagined’, they will share years of observation, experimentation and inquiry into the idea of a cutting garden.

About Taylor Johnston and Ed Bowen:
Taylor Johnston's work in horticulture spans nearly two decades, working with hardy plants, tropicals, cut flowers, and edibles in both a public and private setting. Most recently, after leaving her perch managing the gardens and greenhouses at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and after a brief stint as head grower at NYBG, she teamed up with Ed Bowen, fellow reformed philosopher, hands-on gardener, occasional garden writer, and former proprietor of the nano-nursery Opus Plants, to form a collaborative, experimental nursery project called issima. Current work with issima focuses on growing and selecting under cultivated, garden worthy plants, growing specialty cut flowers, and pursuing a limited number of garden design projects, including most recently, at the Guggenheim in Manhattan.
